Social discourse coarsened significantly during the 2016 election campaign. Though healed from my childhood rape trauma, the impact of abusive language on my psyche is still evident in my dreams. I have been working through my response with my Dream Group, and those dreams will be a major focus of my new book, which is due to be published in the next couple of months. The title of the book is: Spiralling. It has been noted by the media that there has been a sharp increase in visits to psychologists and psychiatrists during 2016. It is my belief that there is a direct correlation between the increase and the threats and abusive comments made during the election campaign. Yet I also believe that it is healthy for victims and targets of the threats, harassment and abusive comments to seek professional support.
